Terms and Conditions

Last updated: October 2025

Please read the following carefully before booking an appointment with The Poodle Standard. By making a booking, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these terms and conditions.

About Us

The Poodle Standard is a professional dog grooming service based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, run by Hollie – an experienced groomer passionate about providing kind, one-to-one care for every dog.

Appointments & Pricing

All appointments are priced based on the size, coat condition, and temperament of your dog.
Prices quoted are for dogs whose coats are in good condition and free from matting, fleas, or ticks. Additional charges may apply if extra time, care, or specialist treatments are required.

We are one-to-one groomers and always prioritise your dog’s comfort and safety. You may find your dog has a better time if they have had a walk and a bathroom break before arrival.

Puppies

We recommend that puppies first visit after their final vaccinations, usually around 12 weeks old.
Puppy grooms are designed to help them become familiar with the grooming environment and process. We class dogs as puppies up to 7 months old.

Health & Welfare

Your dog’s safety and wellbeing are always our top priority, and we are pet first aid trained. Please inform us of any medical issues, allergies, or behavioural concerns when booking or arriving for your appointment.

If your pet becomes distressed or unwell during grooming, we will stop immediately and contact you. In emergencies, if we cannot reach you, we will seek veterinary assistance.
If a health issue arises due to a pre-existing condition or matting, The Poodle Standard cannot be held liable.

Parasites

If fleas or ticks are found during grooming, treatment will stop immediately, and an additional cleaning fee will apply to sanitise the workspace. You may be asked to treat your dog before rebooking.

Matting Policy

We understand matting can happen and no owner intends for it. However, severe matting is painful and dangerous to remove.
We will always put your dog’s welfare first and will not de-mat if it causes discomfort.

If necessary, we will recommend a full clip-off (“start over” groom). Please be aware this may reveal irritation or sores beneath the mats, for which we cannot be held responsible.

Additional charges may apply for de-matting (£10 per 15 minutes). In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006, we will not spend more than 15 minutes removing mats from any dog in a single session.

Aggressive or Anxious Dogs

We reserve the right to refuse or stop grooming any dog that poses a risk to itself or to us.

If a dog attempts to bite or becomes aggressive, we may use a muzzle or other safety measures. If grooming cannot safely continue, you will be charged for the work completed up to that point.

Photos

We love to share photos of our happy clients!

We may take pictures of your dog for our website and social media. If you’d prefer us not to, please tell us before the appointment.

Cancellations & Deposits

  • Please give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule.
  • Cancellations or no-shows within 24 hours will not have deposits returned, and will be required to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit on subsequent bookings.
  • Deposits refunded due to cancellation may be subject to a £3 booking fee (dependant on payment method).

Late Arrivals & Collections

If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may not be able to complete the groom as planned, and additional charges may apply.

If you are late collecting your dog, please let us know.

After 30 minutes, a £10 per half hour fee applies for supervision.

Liability

While every care is taken, grooming is carried out at the owner’s risk.

The Poodle Standard cannot be held responsible for any allergic reactions, pre-existing conditions, or unexpected outcomes from grooming, especially on neglected or matted coats.

Hygiene

All tools, surfaces, and towels are sanitised between each groom.

Your dog’s health and safety remain our number one priority throughout their visit.

Booking Agreement

By booking an appointment, you agree to all the above terms and conditions.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with Hollie before or after your dog’s groom.
